Yusuf Islam DVD Release & Recording New Album
Islam; maybe still better known as Cat Stevens is hoping to return to the U.S to record and is including a song about his deportation three years ago. Due to “National security” Islam was not allowed into the U.S back in 2004. Thankfully all that nonsense is passed at least in a legal sense and has since been declared ’safe’ and can now enter the states.
The plan is to hit Nashville to record and there’s word that Dolly Parton is involved in the album somehow (an odd mix). It’s been noted that prompted by his son Islam has also bought an electric guitar and is adjusting to electric vs. acoustic. Supposedly this album will be a few years in the making though — possibly not released until 2009.
Yusuf’s Cafe Session a DVD released today (October 23rd) should tide fans over for a while at least. The DVD features his first live concert in 28 years and also rare videos and a BBC documentary.

Do you believe all the great songs complied here. It should be amazing — one thing about Islam is that he sounds brillant no matter when or where he plays. Every single time you see this guy live he hits it smack on. Music is what he was born to do and this DVD is one to jump on.

I over Cat Stevens and even quote him a lot on TheRockDose.com…but man I hated most of that last Yusuf CD. I fear he found God (good for him) but lost his songwriting skills. (Bard for us).

I prefer his older stuff as well — I think I have every vinyl from when he was still Cat. I’m hoping this new album is going to be better than his last. He still can sing though; good song writing or not. I cannot believe how great his voice still sounds.
