What’s Wrong With Ginger & Jack?

by Jennifer on August 16th, 2007

Here’s the deal. I just reacquired Goodbye (Cream) on vinyl yesterday. My old copy was the victim of me + an open window + two really hot days. (I know bad me).

Anyhow, as you can probably guess I’ve been obsessively listening to it all day and thought I’d track down a video for Doing That Scrapyard Thing; because I love that song and this way others can obsess along with me. I hunted. I swear. What I don’t get is why only the Cream songs with Clapton singing are so video huge. It hardly seems right. I like Clapton a lot don’t get me wrong. But technically the band’s vocal lead was Jack in the beginning and yet all the videos are Clapton. I’ve actually heard people refer to Clapton as the lead singer of Cream — when really it was a collaborative effort.

I could go on but I doubt it would change the day so since I can’t have Doing That Scrapyard Thing… Without further ado… Badge (the closest thing I could find from Goodbuy). By the way, Badge is my favorite Clapton sung Cream tune so this is less of a consolation prize and more of a compromise.

This is from a reunion show in 05 I believe.

That is indeed the first of their reunions, at Albert Hall. Pretty good show when you consider that the youngest guy onstage is 60. :-) Go on YouTube and find the clip of Stormy Monday - amazing for Clapton going off on a one-note solo in the middle that is blindingly great.

Well, maybe I will go find that clip. You sure seem to know a lot about this era of music — you always have good comments here. Do you have a music site too? Or are you just a huge fan?

I grew up with this music, then translated it into several years of music journalism (how else could I get free records and see everyone?!?) I’m a huge fan but I also have two sites. This one is a growing archive of my published work: http://jonh-ingham.blogspot.com/

This one is part of MOG, a free ranging music social net:

Cool. I want free records. I get free PR stuff for other blogs I write, but sadly no records :(

I checked out your site and it was very cool. Although I’m not an Elvis fan; so I skipped that first post. I love the rock shrines — what a great idea. I liked the Ziggy Stardust one; I really like Bowie. I actually have a very cool Bowie story (not mine) but I should get them as a guest blogger. Hmmm…

I’ll have to check out more of your site when I get a free minute :) Thanks for sharing!
