The Greatest Film Soundtrack Ever
Or at least one of the 50 greatest soundtrack ever according to Vanity Fair editors. Guess what they picked?
Purple Rain
You - must - be - kidding - me!
I don’t believe they named that soundtrack number one. AT ALL.
The full list will be released next month in a one-time Conde Nast magazine, Movies Rock. I guess anyone who subscribes to a Conde Nast magazine will get a copy of Movies Rock.
They did release a few choices to the press; “A Hard Day’s Night came in a No. 2, followed by The Harder They Come, Pulp Fiction, The Graduate, Superfly, American Graffiti, Trainspotting, Saturday Night Fever, and The Big Chill rounded out the top 10.”
Wow.
I agree with: The Harder They Come, A Hard Day’s Night and The Big Chill — they all deserve a spot in top soundtrack history. While I like The Graduate it’s less of a soundtrack (to me) and more a band album because there’s just no variety; although it does honestly fit the movie well and technically you might say the same for A Hard Day’s Night. I’m torn on Trainspotting and Pulp Fiction because they both have excellent tunes and some I’m not fond of.
But what’s bugging me is the number one choice. I think I’ll be back later with soundtracks that rock far better than Purple Rain. In the meantime you should think of some yourself and tell me about them.
