The Favorite 5: The Doors
After our vinyl packed weekend bonanza, I took a little blogging break yesterday. I still have one issue to cover regarding vinyl — well, one for now. But first a little Favorite 5 with The Doors.
We’ve done Led Zeppelin, we’ve cornered Jimi. We’re a month into this blog so I’d say it’s time for a hard one. Not the hardest; that’ll come later. Mainly this choice is based on the fact that after I got over my White album deal this weekend I moved on to rotating The Doors all day yesterday.
Morrison is about the most supposedly angst ridden individual I let myself like. I’m not much for brooding artists. That’s just me though. Still you can’t help but be fascinated. The Doors are a strange bunch. Influencing head woozy flicks and possibly (in my opinion) one of the poorest written books ever.
There are many bands that sport an overriding front man but The Doors pulled this off to the extreme; maybe it wasn’t what they set out to do but that’s what happened.
Although… then again if we consider their opener

Maybe showcasing Morrison was the plan. However, I think the whole band was good mix. One of my favorite things about The Doors is the sheer variety of albums they released. They’re kind of a vinyl collectors dream what with all the compilations and live sets available on LP. Not to mention the new studio released vinyl.
I thought this might be a semi-easy challenge. I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of days. but then I’d hear one like People Are Strange, Peace Frog, Strange Days, or even Touch Me (popish, but still good) and want to switch one of my choices out.
You won’t be able to guess my favorite live mix; but you’ll absolutely be able to tell which studio album is my favorite from this list:
The Favorite 5: The Doors
- Hyacinth House (not the L.A Woman version. I’ve never liked that one; I like the version from this box set, disc one)
- My Wild Love
- Five To One
- Love Street (sorry — not cool on a grand musical level; it’s personal).
- Yes, the River Knows
The first three were easy; the last two were very hard.
Can you narrow it down? Tell me your favorite 5.

Interesting. Not what I’d expect from you. I like soft parade too. I think it gets a much worse rap than necessary. Good list; well, except maybe 5. Not too big a fan of that one.
Thanks for coming by :)

I’ve been agonizing over this one for a while, so here goes.
1. Light My Fire - not cool to list this one as number one, I know, but I still just adore it.
2. The End
3. Spanish Caravan
4. The Crystal Ship
5. Roadhouse Blues
P.S. I got all indignant when you said “No One Here Gets Out Alive” was poorly written, but then I remembered that I was 15 or so when I read it. Perhaps I shouldn’t pick it up again. I have really fond memories of it, but knowing me I’d be picking it apart now. ;-)

Really! Get that book and read it now. I’m serious. The facts are good but it’s how it’s written that sucks. It’s like an 11 year old fan wrote it. I’m super picky about writing though; not that you can tell from how slack I am on blogs. But with articles I’m different and I like well written books. If you read it again let me know — maybe I hated it because I did not read it at a young age or something?
By the way, sadly, Spanish Caravan is my least favorite; well, that and L.A Woman. I like Light My Fire too though — it’s cool! Also LOVE Crystal Ship (but not quite enough to make the top 5 — close though) and I love The End but it’s just so damn long after a while. It’s like come on Jim…. I’m waiting…
Thanks for coming by. Oh, and I linked you to my personal blog so I remember to come visit. Olivia will meet her match!
