“The Establishment” Kicked Me Out…
When I was four years old.
No joke. I’ve been in trouble since then, sure. But it all started for me in preschool.
My nursery school teachers called my mom in for a little chat. They were appalled, they were upset, something needed to be done about me; all because I wouldn’t stop singing Only the Good Die Young to the other children.
The next time my mom got called, I’d been singing Casey Jones for hours.
At this point, there was talk of permanent dismissal, mental imbalances, and possibly therapy. Apparently, four year olds (even cute ones with curls) singing about Catholic virgins and cocaine is frowned upon.
Here I am, almost four and although all I could find was a blurry, scratchy picture, you can plainly see that I am completely terrifying. Geez.
Balanced, unbalanced, or a bit of both for flavor, I’ve held onto to a huge love of 60s and 70s music my entire life. I like other music. In fact I love most music. Ska, Faith No More, Janes, the Blues, Violent Femmes, Ani, U2, The Daddies (20, count em, 20+ Daddies shows folks — oh yeah).
But at the end of the day I’m right back hanging with the Dead, Joni Mitchell, Marley, CS&N (I’ve got a big old Stills crush, just wait you’ll see), and all the other amazing artists of this great musical era.
Now that I’ve gotten the obligatory “Hello, it’s me” post out of the way; let’s get on with this ride… it should be fly so stick around.
Oh, and if you’re a super slick hippie-music lovin’ friend, you will have caught the late 60s tune I interjected into this post. See it? Know which musician sang it?
Peace.

Ahhh, Julie, you’re my first outside of the channel comment ever! How cool is that — you rock! Well, you always rock but now you’ve sort of made history. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Nice place you have here. I will be sure to use the side door,.
Well, you used the title to Todd Rundgren’s “Hello, It’s Me”, but my brain is telling me that’s not it, so I am stumped !!

Trust that old brain of your Paticus, I swear if you were any more music slick you’d be soap.
How do you do it? I’m going to have to rename all my games at all my blogs The Paticus show — you’re just too smart.
Thanks for coming by — especially via the side door; that’s where everyone good comes from.

hide me, hide me! Let me run and grab the cross and holy water! I’m just positive that the nearly 4 year old pictured here is the devil incarnate!
Not really, but you must believe that was once what those teachers of yours thought…

Ha ha, yup that’s me the devil incarnate — I think teachers back then would be happy to hear me sing — compared to what kids talk like now. Not to sound all 80 years old, but back in my day you just didn’t hear kids cursing or being so rude. Most kids now-a-days do both often. I think kids should be just as respected as adults but I woulden’t put up with an adult being rude either.

I totally agree with you, Jennifer! Although I was part of the class of ‘99; cursing and rudeness wasn’t near as common as it is now. I firmly believe that we must raise our children to respect grown ups; but more importantly respect themselves. If they don’t respect themselves; they won’t care what verbiage comes from their mouths or minds.
