NPR Interview With Ben Harper
Harper combination of acoustic folk, blues, funk, soul and rock echoes the sounds of the of the 60s and 70s and yet somehow is completely unique. NPR mentions Harper as a lesson in genre transcendence and that’s a great description.
Yesterday NPR posted a great interview with the amazing Harper who recently released Lifeline in late August. The interview is one of the best I’ve heard in a while. Harpers voice almost soothed me into a coma. Harper talks about the physical complications and spiritual aspects about recording in Paris and plays some live tunes from Lifeline with the Innocent Criminals.
He also discusses playing with one legendary musician (do you know who — it’s pretty cool) and how he handled this legend calling him at his son’s soccer game. Good news of a long tour for Lifeline is included as well.
The musical set includes:
- Fool for a Lonesome Train
- Needed You Tonight
- Say You Will
- Paris Sunrise #7
- Lifeline
I haven’t gotten the new album yet but it’s on my get as soon as possible list and on NPR he sounds breathtaking. I especially love how he does Say You Will. This NPR show may have been the one big highlight of my week.
If you like Harper you have to go listen; it’d be a shame to miss this.
