Missed Farm Aid?
In August I posted encouraging folks to attend Farm Aid; but it’s not a realistic for everyone who wants to attend to get to go. I know it wasn’t for me. Luckily there are some ways to participate and see and hear what you may have missed September 9th at Farm Aid.
Read Ryan’s video blog of the day’s events.
- Watch the on-demand concert webcast online (I saw Neil on the preview there today) starting on Thurs., Sept. 13 at 3 p.m. ET. It’s going to be free for one week. After that, it will only be accessible to FarmYard members. The best part? It will be organized by artist for easy viewing.
- Visit the Farm Aid site for updated concert photos.
- Make a donation to the cause.
- Sign up for email updates so you don’t miss news about next year’s event.
- Grab some fly gear at the Farm Aid shop.
- Plan on attending next year!
I actually already know that I won’t be attending next year because I’m hoping to attend this event which is just before and I likely won’t be able to jaunt off to another corner of the country. But if you don’t have plans I’m sure that next year’s music line-up will be amazing; the food fresh, and the farm air perky.

7 opinions for Missed Farm Aid?

Right on!
I’m glad that you’re keeping folks up to date with Farm Aid.
It amazes me that Farm Aid is still going strong. It’s a great event and cause, but it’s something that really shouldn’t have to be done. I just don’t get how this country can let the family farm go to waste. All of our daily events revolve around the farm. We all want to have a healthy environment and eat healthy food.
We’re seeing first hand the damage done to ourselves by having these corporate/factory farms run the agriculture buisness. People are getting sick and the Earth is too. All of these issues Farm Aid has been addressing for years.
If we protected the family farm, it would be better for us all. We need to support bio-diesel, which would give farmers a profitable crop and a better fuel for the environment. And, we need to buy locally grown food, not food injected with chemicals to preserve it while being shipped around the country.
I apologize for the rant, but this issue really grinds my gears.
Anyways, supporting Farm Aid is a good thing and they do have some awesome merchandise. I love it when people stare at my Farm Aid shirts, it’s a great ice breaker.

And I thought you just had a good blog… Now you’re over the top cool. You sound like you should be over at my tree hugging blog. I feel the same way. I’m not sure when people are going to learn that if it grew in a lab it doesn’t belong on your plate. I don’t think it’s cool to force beliefs on people but when it comes to eating and living closer to the earth I think it’s important people know what a difference it can make.
If people ate and lived a bit more simple all over I highly doubt we’d have this huge weight problem.
Great comment!

Yup, you’re exactly right, on this serious issue and my being over the top cool, lol .
To be honest though, my interest in Farm Aid began with witnessing the family farmer going out of buisness. I’ve known some farmers that quit because they couldn’t make a lving, which includes my family. However, once I researched everything else, like the environment issues and things like mad cow, it became clear that Farm Aid was right and that something has to be done.
My dad told me that close to 30 years ago, a guy went to the farmers in this area and asked them to grow corn for an ethanol plant that he wanted to build around here. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get government funding and the plan went up in smoke.
I can only imagine what it would be like if we started weening ourselves off of oil decades ago.
Anyways, I didn’t know that you had a tree hugger blog, I’ll have to check it out.

Wow, good on your dad being ahead of the times like that. Some people knew even back then. It’s so depressing that the cycle just keeps on going.
And yup I’m one of the new green blogs here at b5 (tree hugging family) in the Family & Relationships channel; although Offbeat Homes is also sort of green or I like to keep it greener than not I should say. b5 is getting with the green topics I think we have maybe four or five green blogs now. You know the whole farmer/local foods/agriculture situation would make a great blog — maybe you should suggest it and then write it. Although for what channel I’d have no clue (maybe business?). They’re kicking off a green business blog but farming green-like topics are fairly specific.

That’s actually a great idea. I love to get on my soapbox. I’ll have to get in touch with someone at b5 and toss that idea out there.

Yeah, I’d read it — I just wonder which channel it would fit with? We have a lot of food at H&D but I don’t know? Maybe we should have a specific green channel and just move everything green over :)
