Like a Rolling Stone Lyrics

by Jennifer on November 3rd, 2007

calm_and_relaxation_2.jpgGuess who I’ve been listening to all day? If you said Mr. Bob Dylan you’d be correct. I thought I’d post some lyrics by him for kicks. I went classic. Sometimes classic is best and today is one of those days.

This isn’t my favorite Dylan song but has to be in my top 10 favorites at least — in fact Dylan might make a good favorite 5… Hmmm, wait for that; we haven’t had one in a while so maybe I’ll be back soon.

Oh, about the stones to the side. I know they aren’t a rolling but well, blog photos tend towards static — sorry.

Like a Rolling Stone

Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn’t you?
People’d call, say, “Beware doll, you’re bound to fall”
You thought they were all kiddin’ you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin’ out
Now you don’t talk so loud
Now you don’t seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal.

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

You’ve gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
Nobody has ever taught you how to live out on the street
And now you’re gonna have to get used to it
You said you’d never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He’s not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And say do you want to make a deal?

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
A complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain’t no good
You shouldn’t let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain’t it hard when you discover that
He really wasn’t where it’s at
After he took from you everything he could steal.

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
They’re all drinkin’, thinkin’ that they got it made
Exchanging all precious gifts
But you’d better take your diamond ring, you’d better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you can’t refuse
When you ain’t got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You’re invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

Ah yes. Good song.

I’ll always have a soft spot for this song.

I’ll never forget after my high school graduation and driving away from that place and blasting this song in my friends car. Both of us were screaming along to it. It just seemed so fitting.

Also, I’ve never seen Dylan live, but I did see the Stones do this in concert. It was pretty good.

Those are the kind of memories everyone has about Dylan songs it seems. Lots of mine about his stuff is car related? Weird. The Stones doing this would actually be a good cover I think — right sort of voices and tunes you know.

What’s super odd is that I’ve heard this twice on the radio since posting this. Which is strange; I don’t remember the last time I heard this on the radio almost well, ever hardly. It was fate.

I hear what your saying, that’s why music is so awesome. I can see the relation to cars, I mean I drive a lot and there’s always music blasting in my car (by the way, I live in the sticks, so there is no public transportation or anything in walking distance, which is why I have to drive).

The Stones version was cool, because they did it during a 3 song set on a mini stage in the middle of the stadium’s field. They were directly to my right and not even 100 feet from me, it was awesome.

That’s weird. I always get freaked out when I talk about a song or movie and then it pops up.
