John and Yoko and New York in the 70s

by Jennifer on October 9th, 2007

If you happen to live in New York (or close wnough for a weekend trip) I’d hit up the Steven Kasher Gallery. Their current exhibition is Allan Tannenbaum: John and Yoko and New York in the 70s. The show runs October 4 through November 3.

john_yoko-product.jpgWhy see it: It’s well known that Tannenbaum is not only one of the greats in 70s New York photography but also one of the few photographers the couple liked and trusted and thusly he was granted the kind of access most photographers can only dream about.

75 vintage and more recent prints complete the exhibition. The Steven Kasher Gallery exhibition description: “Photographs, many of which have never before been available to the public, portray a couple deeply in love. They are playful, spiritual, and remarkably at home as they express their feelings for each other in front of Allan’s camera.”

Nice. If you don’t live in or near New York you can still see this amazing work as the exhibition coincides with the new book release (today actually), John and Yoko: A New York Love Story  (Insight Editions, 2007). You can get the book and see amazing inside shots at Insight Editions. The photos are really breathtakingly done.

It would be cool to see this at a gallery — outside of pages in a book. You lucky New York dwellers.

Just the picture on this blog as they say says a 1000 words. Wouldn’t you just love to be a fly on the wall. Were they in total bliss or drug induced stupor?

I’ll take drug induced stupor for 10,000. Or at least that’s how their blissful faces look. In most pictures actually. But I like it. It’s better than now-a-days when everyone pouts or looks mad for cameras or does just plain kooky stuff. These seem like you’re in the room with them.
