It’s Not Halloween Yet; But Yikes!
After my whole Judy Collins post yesterday I figured I’d check and see if there was a video of my favorite Collins song to post here (there is) but along the way I found something mighty terrifying.
I set aside the favorite song for another day; I figure it’s way more fun to spread terror on Labor Day than play a song I like.
Those of you who are even semi Collins fans know that her two most famous hits ever are likely, my girl Joni’s Both Sides Now and Send in the Clowns written by Stephen Sondheim. Personally I’m not a huge fan of Send in the Clowns. However, I am a big fan of the old school Muppet Show.
The Muppet Show started in 76 and I remember watching it with total fascination. Although I now know that it is completely inappropriate in terms of children’s television. It was very much an adult show. There is no way I caught all the jokes. I wrote an entire post about it at another blog of mine over a year ago.
Still they somehow managed to snag some major stars of the 70s like Elton John, Liberace, Alice Cooper, Rudolf Nureyev, and way more.
Just what does Send in the Clowns and the Muppet Show have in common? Well, Collins was a guest on the show and sang her famous song but how it turned out gives me the creeps and I’m not even scared of clowns. Now, my sister has had a clown phobia since she saw Poltergeist so if you’re like her you better not watch. I have to wonder what they were thinking. I can’t imagine all the frightened kids out there after this.
Have a spooky Labor Day! Oh, and you have to fast forward a bit to get to Collins song or you could just enjoy the Muppet ride.

That thing is freaking me out. I hate it when they take figures that should be funny and make them crazy.

I can’t tell if they were trying to make it funny or not — frankly it seems like a total freak show to me. Maybe they knew it would get people? Those wacky Muppets.
