I Don’t Play the Guitar

by Jennifer on July 6th, 2007

Or flute, piano, bass, French horn, hand-clappers, recorder, not even the tambourine. I can play one very small beat on a drum — that’s it. I realized after my last post (having described a tune as “twangy”) that I better make a public disclaimer.

If you’ve shown up thinking that this blog is your best bet for learning how to tune an anything; I’m sorry, but it’s really not. I may at times use the following to describe a song: twangy, popping, crunchy, cool, super-fly, loud, soft, and numerous others but (other than this second) it’s highly unlikely that you’ll hear me say; fret, scales, trebles, tonal property, transducer, phosphor bronze strings, electro-magnetic pickups, fingerboard nut, or any other “real” musical related term.

Yes, I just went and looked those words up — for all I know they have nothing to do with instruments what-so-ever.

Other that that I love listening to music and adore talking about it. I collect albums, have attended an almost obscene amount of shows, and can sing along with the best of them. But playing — not me. Just a heads up for those of you looking for riffs. (I used a word!)

This has been a short “I’m with the band, not in it” disclaimer and now I’ll return you to our regularly scheduled programming.

*UPDATE: Just noticed something. If you do happen to be here via an urge to learn more about the technical side of music check out my pal Arjun over at b5media’s The Good Musician — he’s got a very cool post up right now that tells you exactly what music is — he seems to know his stuff. Guess I should head over for some tips.
