Hippie wedding songs

by sgraham on May 3rd, 2008

You know, that last post got me thinking. It’s been a while since I tripped down the aisle but there are young (and old) hippies everywhere taking that last step into commitment this year - and hell, they need some tunes.

Here’s my Top Five list of awesome hippie wedding songs:

  1. So Happy Together by the Turtles
  2. I Will by the Beatles
  3. You’ve got a Friend by James Taylor
  4. They Love Each Other by the Grateful Dead
  5. There is Love by Peter, Paul and Mary

Goofy?  Corny?  You bet.  What else would go along with bare feet and the everlasting image of your dad humming along to Puff the Magic Dragon at the reception?

What are your suggestions for awesome hippie wedding songs?

Our wedding song was “Standing On the Moon” by the Good Ol Grateful Dead.

Our wedding song was “Heaven Down Here” by, to me the ultimate Hippie couple of the new millenium, Tuck & Patti. We are actually gonna perform it ourselves at my sister-in-laws wedding in a couple months as they take a trip down the aisle. As my wife took the trip down the aisle to it not a dry eye was left in the house. Beautiful lyrics…check it out.

As a side story we caught Tuck & Patti in Northhampton, Ma a few years back at the Iron Horse and after the show we got the chance to talk to them and tell them how we used that song as our wedding march. Tuck then informed us that the lyrics were actually written by Jim Carey the actor and comedian. I thought Tuck as being a bit of a puck but he insisted on it. I still don’t know if I believe him because the liner notes simply read J. Carey.
