Happy International Day of Peace

by Jennifer on September 21st, 2007

peace daySeptember 21st is recognized all over the world as a day to honor peace among our fellow humans.

While worldwide events vary, the song remains the same; today for at least one day we can have a cessation of hostilities and try to simply get along.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the International Day of Peace. You can celebrate however you choose but here are 10 peaceful tunes you might want to slap on the record player.

  1. peacePeace Train: Cat Stevens
  2. Give Peace A Chance: John Lennon
  3. Ladies of the Canyon: Joni Mitchell
  4. Anything Bob Marley (you try narrowing him down)
  5. Wooden Ships: Crosby, Stills & Nash
  6. Rubin & Cherise: Grateful Dead
  7. Visions of Johanna: Bob Dylan
  8. Here Comes the Sun: Richie Havens version
  9. Ooh Child: The Five Stairsteps
  10. 8:16 A.M.: 311

Now, before you get all miffed; I just picked the most peaceful songs I felt like hearing today — not necessarily anti-war or what not. If you have a favorite peaceful song list it in the comments.
You can find more peaceful music downloads here.

If the music doesn’t get you completely peaceful try sending flowers to a loved one. I have to recommend these flowers that were brought to my attention by one good blogging friend.

tye dye roses

How cool are these!

Have a wonderful day, and a moment of silence for peace today — wherever you are.

Peace friends.

OOh Child - does that bring back memories. All good worthy, and yes, peaceful choices. I might have added “Ripples” by the Grateful Dead, but really I have no nits to pick.

It is also national POW/MIA Day. During your moment of peaceful silence say a prayer for those who serve(d). My husband still has his POW braclet he wore in the 60’s
Much love and peace from your local troublemaker

DEB! I had Ripple on the list! But then I had a former post about Rubin & Cherise — and a link is better than not so… but that is funny. And sort of physic of you.

Thanks for the peaceful wishes trouble maker — maybe peaceful trouble maker today huh :) I’ll light an extra candle for your hubby and others who are caught up in the serving issues.
