Farm Aid Festival Lineup & Contest!

by Jennifer on August 8th, 2007

On Sunday, September 9 at Randall’s Island in New York City, Farm Aid 2007 will be jamming all day long.

some farm supporters

The line-up has some winners and a few I wouldn’t be interested in, but it does seem like this year they really tried hard to find a little something for all music fans. They’ve got Dave Matthews, The Allman Brothers Band, Counting Crows, Matisyahu, Guster, The Derek Trucks Band, Warren Haynes, Supersuckers, The Ditty Bops and Montgomery Gentry, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds and The Allman Brothers Band.

I would love to see Neil Young, The Allman Brothers Band, and Dave Matthews all on the same day. Especially I’d like to see Neil Young, who I haven’t had the chance to see before. Besides the great tunes, Farm Aid has a mission, “To support programs that help farmers thrive, expand the reach of the Good Food Movement, take action to change the current system of industrial agriculture and promote food from family farms.

Since 1985, Farm Aid has raised over $30 million to do just that. If you’re near New York or able to travel I’d absolutely plan on being there to support their goals.

farm aidFarm Aid 2007: A HOMEGROWN Festival has some amazing and new features this year. As always there’s going to be a full day of music, family-owned farm food vendors, and exhibits with farmers and farm activists (most will will be hands on and interactive).

What’s brand spankin’ new this year is that a main goal is to serve 100% local, family-farmed, organic, and humanely-raised food.

That will be very tasty I’m sure, as well as wonderful for the earth and families.

This year you can enter the Top of the Haystack contest to win some amazing prizes.

From the Top of the Haystack site:

“Grand Prize
One deserving fan who makes their way to the top of the haystack on Aug. 30, 2007 at 5 p.m. EST will receive the following prizes:

  • Two front row tickets to Farm Aid 2007: A HOMEGROWN Festival
  • Airfare for two to the concert from anywhere in the continental U.S.
  • Hotel accommodations for one night in New York City

Winners who are FarmYard members will receive a bonus prize of a VIP gift bag and a full line of 2007 concert t-shirts.

Additional Prizes
Everyone who enters the contest will be entered into a random drawing

  • 5 winners will receive VIP gift bags, just like the artists receive, from the 2007 Farm Aid concert
  • 10 winners will receive the 2007 concert t-shirt of their choice”

Warning! Do not, I repeat do not, go visit Top of the Haystack unless you’ve got some time to kill. I seriously wasted quite a few more minutes than I have to spare just voting for people. It’s really fun.

I wouldn’t personally enter, because I really believe winners should be one, growers or farmers or heavy into farm advocacy and two, there’s no way I’d have time to jaunt off to New York this soon. But still the contest is great and I love how they set it up. If you enter, let me know why, and maybe I’ll go give you a vote.

Tickets for Farm Aid 2007 are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at http://www.ticketmaster.com/, or by calling (212) 307-7171, (631) 888-9000 or (203) 624-0033. Ticket prices are $52 for general admission, $102 for reserved seats and $302 for VIP reserved seats. That’s actually far cheaper than I’d have thought. You can’t beat $52 bucks for that many great bands. It’s a huge deal.

So, are you packing up the tractor and family and heading to Farm Aid 2007; tell me about it.

I’m so glad that you posted this, Farm Aid is a great thing. I think that it’s great that they’re sticking to the east coast, because our farmers neeed help too.

I saw the lineup a few days ago and it looks pretty decent, I think a bit better then Philly last year. I may even try and head up to New York for this.

Sounds like a plan, if I go. I have to check my money situation. It was a good time in Philly last year, even though the weather was nasty. I’d love to see Mellencamp and Neil again.
