Extensive Look at James Taylor & One Man Band
Being a semi-James Taylor fan more so than a huge fan means I don’t normally stop and read article about him. This particular article hit my feeds labeled as, “Joni Mitchell” so of course I went for a peek. Turns out Joni is mentioned but not the main event of this article. For some reason I stuck around and read it though which turned out to be smart because the article, by Charles J. Gans was pretty interesting.
Gans looks back at Taylor’s life; the drug issues, three marriages, other relationships and how most of these life events have created the Taylor’s new album, One Man Band. The album released last month is in Taylor’s words, “An intimate retrospective of 40 years worth of songs and the people, places and events that inspired them.” This is a CD/DVD set of live recordings and the stories behind the songs which is a great idea, I think for people in the biz as long as Taylor. It’s nice to hear the songs and get to hear where an artist was coming from — if they can remember.
Take a look at the article if you’re a Taylor fan. It’s not glossy about drug use or too sentimental. Just some plain old good thoughts from the man behind the songs.
