Come Together, Right Now… If You’re Led Zeppelin!

by Jennifer on September 3rd, 2007

That’s right it’s mostly official — Led Zeppelin is getting together for a memorial concert in honor of Ahmet Ertegun, the founder of Atlantic Records who died in December 2006. So, the memorial concert is a tad late. But it’s Led flippin’ Zeppelin; they can come late to whatever party they choose I believe.

Now the story is a little stretched right now.

I got the heads up from my blogging pal Dave over at his fly blog Brit Music Scene. Dave heard this rumor from who knows where but maybe since he said this, National press started advertising ticket packages this morning for a one off concert at London’s 02 Arena (formerly the Millenium Dome).” He’s banking on the ticket sales being a good sign.

old school led zeppelinI noticed that the Sunday Mirror in the UK had an old article related to the supposed Led Zeppelin reformation in June. How this news missed my feeds is anyone’s guess.

Anyhow, that aside, the Sunday Mirror reports that plans for the memorial concert, “Are in the advanced stages. Approaches have also been made to the Rolling Stones, Genesis, James Blunt, The Streets and Bloc Party.”

The Sunday Mirror also reports that “a friend” has noted that they are totally on board for the benefit and would like to tour again before they’re too old. However in 2005, and other numerous occasions Robert Plant has lamented that he’d never tour with his former band mates again although he said nothing about a benefit or memorial concert here or there.

Dave’s willing to sell body parts if the concert comes to officially happen which he might have to do (Visit Dave to see the insane concert ticket costs).

Right now I’m thinking that it sounds good, but the official Led Zeppelin website has no news what-so-ever (yet) and you’d think that if it were true, Rolling Stone would have it plastered all over their homepage; but no.

My recommendation. I LOVE the idea but don’t go buying ‘tickets’ from any old guy on the streets until a more official statement is made preferably by the remaining members of Led Zeppelin themselves. It could be true though; you never know. If so Dave might get a surprise house guest because I’d love to see Led Zeppelin play live and the English I know are limited to um, him right now.

What’s your take? Rumor or reality dream come true?

    From BBC News:

Led Zeppelin fans have been warned against buying tickets for a supposed comeback gig in London this autumn.

Tickets are being advertised by one ticket agency, which claims a concert is “on the brink” of being announced for the O2 arena later this year.

But the band, who broke up in 1980, have not confirmed any dates and promoter Harvey Goldsmith says he is concerned people are being “fleeced”.

However, he did not specifically deny that the gig was going ahead.

Jonh; I’m guessing this clip is making a statement that you are of the rumor camp? I myself am of this camp. Until I see a band member speak out I’m not jumping on a plane.

The purpose of the event sounds right (celebrating Ahmet Ertegun’s life). The lack of official announcement means I wouldn’t buy a ticket. Yet.
